This was a terrifying book. Scott Thomas knows how to scare readers. That said, I wanted so much more from all the characters except for Sam. Sam was very well fleshed out, but the others seemed pretty flat by comparison. They were still enjoyable to read about, but they lacked the depth to make them really memorable. Also, I could have done without the excessive descriptions of how fat Daniel was, how his fingers were like big round sausages, how he could BARELY roll out of bed in the morning. I mean, we get it. The dude is big. And to then continue this description after he has suffered a serious trauma was just.... Insensitive.
Overall, this delivered mostly on what I expected. It was creepy and scary and sad: the perfect combination for a horror story. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a story about a creepy house but is also okay with there being more than one setting in the story.
