Climate-fiction is the new horror genre. The realities of increasingly frequent droughts, wildfires and powerful storms are way more terrifying than fictional vampires, monsters and haunted houses. This book is an excellent example of the potential impact and fallout after a monster storm - it's just realistic enough to remind you of our precarious existence. (Excuse me while I go pack my emergency go/survival kit.) The Displacements, while I loved it, does have a few problematic themes (such as reliance on the the 'strong Black woman' trope), but overall is a fantastic, propulsive read. Great for book clubs.
