This book was a freaking whirlwind.
I was here for the BIPOC sapphic Cinderella retelling and it delivered, mostly. Sophia wants to change the world around her. And I was rooting for her from the very beginning. My issues start with
the necromancy/raising the dead
I understand this is a fantasy, but that just kind of changed the vibe of the book. I understand why it was used and the way it intertwined with the twist of the book. But it still felt weird.

I liked Constance enough and Sophia was ok, but the other wise characters were more itneresting tbh. Although I did find Erin irritating but the irritation I had with her made sense.

This book does kind of give me some
Hocus Pocus
vibes.

Beyond all of that - I loved the idea of a town following the tale of Cinderella (not bc I like it or believe it but bc it is an incredibly intelligent use of a fairytale retelling).

As for the ending of this book - it felt a bit rushed, but overall, I liked the resolution. I would love more retellings like this that have BIPOC, queer, strong women changing the world in fairytales.
