Girl, Woman, Other by Bernardine Evaristo

5.0

Where do I begin, this is my first Bernardino Evaristo book but it WILL NOT be my last.
I loved this book, for so many reasons, it is about mostly women of color in Britain, women who were feminist before feminist was, there were lesbians before lesbians could be out, there are non-binary before non-binary.
This is book is about the future, it's about the past of 12 different characters that are so different but yet are so alike in so many ways in their fight to be respected, appreciated, loved, recognized as a women, not a skin color and some how, by their walks of life, their children, their history, their choices, their need to be women, they become entwined on their journey discovering what it means to be a feminist, a lesbian, non-binary, a mother, a grandmother, a wife, a friend, a widow, an orphan. It's a beautiful story, if you've not picked it, please do.
I give it 5 ⭐
