My Lady Jane by Jodi Meadows, Brodi Ashton, Cynthia Hand

5.0

I got this book my my June owlcrate. I wasn't sure what to expect, but I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised. What a great story! Written in a way that makes it hard to break away and come back to reality! It was a really great book!

*Spoilers*

King Edward is sick. He's only 16 but he's dying and he has no heir. He signs off the kingdom to his cousin Jane, so that she can become queen. She marries G at the command of Edward. We soon learn that Edward has been poisoned. G's father want's him dead so that he can take the crown. Edward slowly stops eating the food that's been poisoned, and discovers that he's a bird. (Okay, so the whole animal thing was cool and also a little bit weird. But over all I liked the story.) Jane becomes queen, but then is sentenced to die when Mary retakes the throne. But, unlike history, Jane does not die and neither does Edward. It's a fun story, it reminded me a little of The Goose Girl, and in all the best ways! I recommend it, especially if you want to see how it all should have gone down in history. It's a fun one! And even though it's on the longer side (almost 500 pages) I read it pretty quickly. My Lady Jane sucked me in and it was hard to come back to reality after reading it, but it is well written and I loved it!
