Lovers & Friends
I immediately became involved in an entanglement with this story at onset. The story opens with the rejection of a wedding proposal. Harlow’s decision sparks the unfolding of a self discovery journey of sorts for her. She has the realization that the relationship between she and Hendrix was one of convenience and comfortability. They’d grown up together and their parents were dear friends to each other.
She relocates from Houston to Seattle after securing a job there as a yoga instructor. She and one of her initial clients there instantly form a sisterly bond. It is through this connection she is becomes acquainted with Acyn, the client’s brother. Despite the impression made initially, Harlow and Acyn eventually form a genuine, platonic friendship. They have the most unmistakable chemistry with one another as they are able to exchange a humorous banter and be one another’s top supporter effortlessly.
Hendrix, dubbed by both as The Ex, during this development is unwilling to see the writing on the wall and is insistent on Harlow being his as if she’s something to possess rather than cherish. He struggled to insert himself any way he deemed possible into Harlow’s life. He attempted to compete where there was in fact no comparison. He in all actuality was more enamored with himself than anything.
The love between Harlow and Acyn, affectionately called, Sunshine and Ace burned intensely yet unhurried. Everyone around them seeing the inevitable union forming before either of them was willing to admit to each other or themselves. The pace at which their love story unfolded was PERFECTION! I was pleased to have selected it to read to break up the heaviness of my other read.
