Thin Skin: Essays by Jenn Shapland

Did not finish book.
DNF about 40% of the way through. I expected to really enjoy this collection of essays - and some of it was quite compelling. The parallels between sensitivity, climate change, environmental racism, and more, were well-expressed but never fully tied together.

Shapland's writing often felt clunky, with jarring shifts between personal narrative and quotes pulled from writers (usually woman/femmes of color) who have already written deeper on the subjects at hand. The essays never seem to draw conclusions; rather, it felt like Shapland intentionally wrote to an echo chamber to express hopelessness. I enjoyed parts of her personal story and respect her ability to tell it. However, Shapland contributes nothing new to the topics of conversation that I read.
