Patricia Wants to Cuddle by Samantha Allen

2.5 stars
Such a weird, weird book. I've read a lot of strange books, but Patricia Wants to Cuddle takes the win for the weirdest book ever. I wish I could say the weirdness was a good thing, but it simply missed the mark. I did expect this to be absurd and ridiculous, but I feel like the execution lacked something. Maybe I was looking for more logic to the events of the book, the motivations of the lesbian death cult etc etc. I just didn't understand the point of the story. Yes, it was supposed to be about people labelled as strange and not normal aka queer people banding together and finding acceptance in their spooky desert island. But there was this feeling of disconnect throughout the novel, especially in the second half. The drastic switchover to slasher horror just made me sigh tiredly instead of making me cackle in disbelief. Props for the unique idea but I had to drop my rating for the lackluster execution.
