This is my reread review for Iron Flame prior to reading Onyx Storm. I still love these characters and all the adventures and antics they get up to. Neither Violet nor Xaden is perfect, and no one in this series has plot armor. Those are a few of the many reasons people love this series. Plus, dragons. Duh!

While I love this series, this book is anything but perfect. There is a lot of info dumping that happens in this book, and a lot of apparently useless facts that get thrown out there, then later we find the random facts to be important. Which is why a reread was necessary, deciphering what is necessary information from what is extra.

Violet's return to Basgiath War College is anything but easy, when Xaden and Sygael are stationed at one of the posts farthest away from Violet. They are only allowed to fly to each other once a week to meet the needs of their mated dragons. However, the higher ups find reasons for them not to be available when they travel to see one another.

Violet is continuing to try and figure all of Xaden's secrets out, but he doesn't make it easy for her. He doesn't want her to enmeshed in rebellion plans despite her willingness to help.

Violet takes it upon herself to try and find how the first six riders errected the ward stones, but all of the easily accessible texts are just about maintaining the ward stones. Keeping civilians safe from the Venin depends on their ability to erect new wards.
