I knew nothing about the Oil Sands in Canada before reading this book. Kate Beaton's story draws attention how isolating these jobs are and how the people who work there feel trapped with so little options to earn any "real money" anywhere else. Being so remote and with men significantly outnumbering women there is a lot of horrendous misogamy and sexual abuse happening at these camps. Not to mention the environmental impact these oil drilling plants have. This books gave me a lot to think about.
