Wynter's Second Chance by Denver Shaw
5.0
5 stars
So beautiful and emotional second chance story between two estranged best friends.
Wynter and Taran were very close during their teenage years and also during Taran and Royce's marriage: the three of them have always been best friends and Royce's death had a terrible impact on their lives; both Wynter and Taran's pain and sense of guilt brought them apart and when Wynter was back, it took some time for them to rebuild their old friendship, even if their affection for each other was still there.
Rory is so so amazing and precious! I adored how the author made his relationship with Wynter evolving slowly, without jumping into a father/son dynamic: she actually let them get to know and love each other and especially, let Rory have his doubts and concerns before loving Wynter.
I honestly cried during some difficult parts, seeing how much Royce suffered and how desperate and shattered Taran and Rory were after his death.
But I really really adored that Royce's memory was never villanised, forgotten or diminished: the grief was still there until the end, but it left a lot of space to hope and love too.
Highly recommended
