The Secret History by Donna Tartt
5.0
'a californian boy arrives at a private new england college where he falls in with a bunch of snooty but delightful classics majors who happen to have accidentally killed someone during a bacchian rite they just happened to be conducting in their spare time' - maggie stiefvater's summary
i really really enjoyed this book. i feel like i'm not old enough to fully appreciate the richness of this book, i'll definitely have to revisit it sometime in the future. nevertheless, i enjoyed this book so much. it took me a while to get into (it's so dense!) but after a hundred or so pages i fell in love. the way donna tartt creates a certain atmosphere in a book is just wonderful, and i couldn't help feeling like some pretentious, reckless teen while reading it, which i kind of adored.
the characters in this are simultaneously some of the most horrible, but also the most wonderful. francis & camilla in particular, i formed a particular attachment to.
overall a beautiful, beautiful book!
