I swear despite the dedication to trust the process by JR Gray, I didn’t heed his warning. The time gap in a good romance always breaks me a bit. The bigger the gap, the more emotional I get, always worrying it’s been too much time apart.
Despite that, this was such a wonderful story with amazing storytelling. I couldn’t put this down and had to devour it in one sitting. Arik & Varian’s story took me on beautiful highs and lows. The mental health representation, some codependency, honesty, love. It all comes with their relationship. I was not ready for the twists and turns, I certainly wasn’t ready for that time gap. I actually sobbed a bit right at the beginning of Part 3 when it said, “Seventeen years later”, my heart hurt at that.
It's a beautiful story with a hard fought HEA. The story is full of funny banter, I loved the side characters in the bad as well. The song lyrics were amazing as well. This book is an emotional roller coaster, taking me from smiling, laughing to having my heart ripped out to "oh my god what happened?!" to crying, aching and to smiling all over again. It's a wonderful book and I would recommend it to anyone.
Trust the process and as the JR himself says in the dedication, “I promise it’s worth it.”
