I wanted to like this book wholly but it's just so flat. It's vague. Which annoys me because there are a lot of good parts however it just doesn't make it together. It's slow to start and at some point it felt like the story was dragging. The challenge isn't clear nor is the reason behind it. It's unconvincing. It's vague.
The circus element is definitely one of the better parts about the book. It is the highlight of the story (at least for me) because everything that's good about this book is the circus and how it's written. The rest of the story is unconvincing. Marco and Celia's chemistry felt so inauthentic. There is magic (which is also good) but it isn't magical. Overall, it felt lacking. Not something I'm dying to reread or remember.
