Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty

This book was amazing. I listened to it on Audio CD which was almost a mistake, because I couldn't tear through it when I got to the end confrontation. I literally sat in my car at 11 PM at night listening to it. This is a great read for people who enjoy Chick Lit (which this book is not), realistic drama and/or mysteries. If I could give this 7 stars, I would.

The characters were so well written, very different but all people you could relate to or empathize with. (Madeline is probably the best character I've read in a while.) But what was so intriguing about this book was the fact that you knew one of the main characters was dead by the end so you tried not to get too attached to any of them. Madeline, Celeste and Jane were all on my do not kill list and I was terrified they would be the victim. These women are flawed in realistic ways and all deal with things that can happen so easily. But the men.... Oh man more than once did I say out loud in my car "Screw that guy." They were, excluding Ed, perfect depictions of men of privilege not realizing how damaging their actions can be. In this case to fatal effect.

I do have to admit that I guessed who Ziggy's father is but it didn't ruin the story for me. I also guessed the revelation about Tom too. But I liked it. I can't wait to see this played out on HBO's limited series next year.
