Shattered Blue by Lauren Bird Horowitz
Did not finish book.
DNF @ 22%
I really struggled with the heroine's voice in this one and also the hero and heroine's interactions. It appeared as thought the author wanted to establish a romantic chemistry between the two characters very early on. I've seen some reviewers say this book was instalove (and maybe it is a bit later), but I didn't get the instalove vibe. I just didn't feel anything towards the hero and the heroine, despite the attempts to try to make me care. They go on one date after a couple brief encounters and the heroine is already concerned that the hero is trying to shut her out. She even says something to the effect of "like he always does" and this was all in the first 20%.
I'm sure there is a reason why Noa keeps bringing up her sister, almost putting her on a pedestal, which I'm sure can be attributed to the fact that she was her little sister and she looked up to her. But for some reason reading about it over and over just didn't work. It felt repetitive. Also, the constant mentions of how everyone was staring at her was strange. Sure, in high school when someone passes people probably won't know what to say but the descriptions of how everyone couldn't look away was strange to me.
I wasn't hating this book. That's not why I didn't finished, I just got annoyed with awkward and rushed romantic relationship. And I just didn't care enough about the characters to keep reading.
