Legendary by Stephanie Garber
4.25
Legendary is a captivating read that transports you into a world filled with magic and mystery. I was thoroughly enjoying the story, especially the intriguing twists of the Caraval game. As Garber writes, “In the game of Caraval, nothing is ever as it seems,” and this book certainly delivers an engaging journey filled with unexpected turns.
However, I was ultimately disappointed by the reveal of Legend’s true identity. The buildup had me anticipating something extraordinary, but it didn’t quite match my expectations. As one character reflects, “The truth is always more complicated than we expect,” and in this case, that felt particularly true. I hoped for a more surprising twist, and the revelation left me wanting.
On a brighter note, I loved seeing more of Jacks, whose enigmatic presence adds a thrilling edge to the story. I just wished we had more insight into his backstory to understand him better.
Overall, while Legendary dazzles with its imaginative storytelling and enchanting atmosphere, I felt it missed the mark in terms of the climax. The allure of the Caraval world kept me turning pages, making it a delightful read, but it ultimately fell short in delivering the surprise I was hoping for.
