Y'all I loved this book so much! You must read this and give it a try! This is a lush, unique, action packed, complex Latinx inspired fantasy that just really hooks you from the go.
The writing of the book itself is absolutely magnificant! Beautiful and descriptive while not being over the top or annoying. There were so many things I highlighted and just loved.
I also loved the characters of this novel! They were all well thought out and detailed characters that felt real and had such good arcs and development in my opinion. These are probably some of the most real characters I've read in a long time. They all just felt so human. I feel like a lot of people may not like Alfie, the main Prince character because of his softness and some of his actions but I'm a sucker for soft boys so I loved him. I adored the relationships between all of the main characters as well! Especially between Fin and Alfie as they get the most screen time together. There were so many scenes I loved with them and so many quotes as well.
While I do think the world building is solid it did feel a little underdeveloped. I think it was a great setup though and I'm hoping we learn and see more in the upcoming books. The magic system is very detailed and unique which is what I absolutely ADORED. I also feel we get a good amount of the worlds history throughout. I just wish we heard about or saw a little more of the actual world and the surroundings beside the castle and a couple other places we see in the book. I do feel we'll really get that in the sequels though.
I did feel sometimes like there was a lot going on and a lot of different moving pieces which could get a little confusing/overwhelming at times but for the most part it wasn't a big deal at all. Also there were a few pretty cheesy moments in here. I also read this very slowly, almost over a whole month and I definitely felt like that effected my investment in this book just a little but obviously not that drastically because I still loved it. I was especially hooked in the last 20-30% of this book. I just adored it and had so many emotions.
So yes, please pick up this book because you will fall in love with it! ♥️
