This felt like the sequel that didn’t need to happen. While I appreciated the twists and the justification that Anna went through internally for her actions, this novel was otherwise not that engaging. It was overly repetitious with respect to what had happened in the previous novel. Anna is also a wholly unsympathetic character with only her survival instincts as her drive for her actions. It would have been more interesting to see how someone who was so driven to be successful in school when she was younger, but had her opportunities taken from her, really try to retake that life and be motivated by something other than just covering up her past. Giving her a little something more like this would have made it a much more engaging character study, made her more relatable, which would give readers just that bit of skin-crawling feeling to find some commonality with a narcissistic psychopath.
