The Betrayal, by R.L. Stine

5.0

I read The Fear Street Saga trilogy when I was about 12/13 years old, and I recall it scaring the beejeezus out of me. The nostalgia of it hit me at 30, and I decided to revisit the old tales. Two families warring after that nasty business that is the witch trials is the foundation of the trilogy. Although my barometer for fear has increased tremendously since my early adolescence, there are still parts of this book that make my jaw drop, i.e. when Mary finds Rebecca hanging from the rafter, and when William Goode turns to dust. I can still hear the terrifying "creak, creak" of Rebecca swinging back and forth. Oh, how magnificent these books are!
