I can't tell if this is just a product of its time or if I'm just not a straight up romance reader. The first third or so was really promising with good conflict and chemistry, but the rest fell flat for me. This is set up as almost a forbidden romance due to the line of work both characters partake in, but that is never really an issue in their relationship. Then we're led to believe the protagonist won't be with her love interest because of her fear of love, but then she promptly decides to "just enjoy the time they have." And then he basically forces her to marry him and she's okay with it despite fearing that he would get tired of her? And then we're treated to sex scene after sex scene that doesn't contribute to the plot because there isn't one by that point. The plot makes a valiant effort to return, only to be beaten back out of the story within a handful of pages. There was so much promise in the premise and the plot, but they were pushed out of the book in favor of pointless sex scenes. I mean, I'm no prude, but there's only so many times I can read about her nipples hardening like jewels and him stroking the damp between her thighs before I start skimming.
