"The Death of the Author" is a literary theory that argues that the meaning of a text is not determined by the author's intention, but rather by the reader's interpretation.

The title of Nnedi Okorafor's newest book is perfect. There are several meanings behind the title, but I won't ruin it for you. I'm still sitting with the ending trying to understand what I read, in the best way possible.

We follow Zelu, an author with a disability, dealing with sudden fame after her book takes the world by storm. Nnedi's character work here is great. I loved Zelu, and wanted nothing but the best for her. Seeing life through her eyes made me angry with how many of the characters treated her in the book.

But, we're also introduced to characters in her book, "Rusted Robots." I found myself equally invested in the story and characters of the fictional book.

I really enjoyed the blending of genres presented in the book. I would love to know if Nnedi's representation of Nigerian culture, as well as Zelu's representation as a character with a disability, were done correctly and respectfully.
