The Future of Another Timeline by Annalee Newitz

3.0

This is the second book by Newitz that I've read, and I enjoyed it enough to continue reading her work.

This one is more speculative than hard sci-fi. It's an alternative history that deals largely with women's and reproductive rights. It's well researched (her end notes about the true-to-life elements she wove into the story were super cool) and it's easy to follow even though the main characters hop around different timelines and different time "edits."

I might have enjoyed it more if I'd read a hard copy instead of listen to the audiobook, which is narrated by Laura Nichol. Nichol embodies the adolescent voice of Beth, but that style doesn't work so well when she's reading Tess's story. I did like the Grape Ape performance, though--a very cool addition you wouldn't get w/ the hard copy.
