Reconstructing Amelia by Kimberly McCreight
3.0
This is one of those books that are akin to junk food. They don’t nourish you, and it isn’t something that makes you feel particularly good. You devour it quickly, and a little shamefully. I won’t recommend this book nor will I keep it or likely remember it years from now. The characters won’t stay with me, I shan’t tattoo quotes on my arm.
However, if I said I didn’t stay up 2 hours later than intended because I couldn’t put it down - I would be lying. This shit is easy and addictive, and you NEED to know what happens.
However, the police work is unrealistic, the characters aren’t very interesting and when the mystery gets untangled it really is lacklustre but you are distracted by the next thing so you don’t think about it.
Will this book change your life? Absolutely not!
Should you buy this book? Not for more than a dollar.
If you are on a rural Nova Scotian island and you finished your Bukowski novel and this is the book your mother just finished reading and offers it up to you, should you reluctantly take it? Yep.
