Teen Titans: Starfire by Kami Garcia
4.0
4 stars - It was really good
Kori Andrews is a rule follower who doesn’t care about keeping up with the current trend, unlike her sister Kira. She especially doesn’t rush because her Ehler Danlos syndrome could flare up. When her sister’s popular boyfriend Tate convinces them to participate in his uncle's pharmaceutical company clinical trial on EDS, they agree. But Kori quickly realizes that she has strange powers and that there's more going on with the pharmaceutical company.
This jumps back a little in time to follow Kori’s build up of powers until she eventually meets the other teens. Kori isn’t the popular girl like her sister and she frequently has to deal with people not understanding her EDS flair ups. When her abilities start to become apparent, she struggles to understand what is happening or if she should trust HIVE like her sister has.
I really liked Kori, but also I have always liked her. She tries to do the right thing by telling her sister about what is going on but that doesn’t really work out. I like that we are getting both Starfire and Blackfire in this version and look forward to seeing how this plays out in future volumes.
This volume also introduces us to Vic (Cyborg), who Kori meets while doing the clinical trials. He helps Kori find more information and joins up with the other teens, but we still don't have a lot of his backstory. I am hopeful we will get to know more about him in future volumes.
Overall, this was a great continuation of this series and I can’t wait to see what they will do next to try and take down Slade and HIVE.
