Black Sheep by Rachel Harrison

3.0

“How could I have known then? How can anyone know when ruin wears the disguise of love?”

Hot goths, parental trauma, Hail Satan. Fans of “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” will dig this. The last 30 or so pages (before the epilogue) earned a whole star in itself. Felt more like a CW show than I’m typically a fan of but it takes all kinds. There were more than enough narrative punches to keep me turning the pages ‘til the very end.

The overall plot felt somewhat derivative and less than compelling. It’s a good story, but an old one, and the “gotcha!” flip of the script wasn’t as big a punch as it was made out to be. But, to be fair, I am a selfish reader and am always wanting more.

3/5 I’m excited to read other Harrison’s, I just maybe shouldn’t have started on this one.
