Leigh Bardugo has ruined all other YA for me. It doesn't even feel that YA really, what with all the violence and adult themes. But ugh, the perfect pacing, the characterisation, the development of the friendships/relationships...I love it so much.
We get to spend plenty of time on the buildup before the heist, so we already feel like we've known these characters for a while. I hate not feeling connected to a book's characters during tense action, because why would I care what happens to them? But wow, I care about the Crows so dearly! The first time I read this book I was honestly doubtful that I would like all the characters, but I was very wrong. The romances are believable as well, and not too sudden. Leigh's writing has come a long way from the love quadrangle mess of the original trilogy.
I know a third book is on the cards, and it would be nice to see them again, but I'm honestly not hugely pleased with this if they're all just going to suffer again. Leave them alone Leigh ;-;
