Sequels are hard because they have to live up to your expectations of the first book. “Ruthless Vows” was good, but it wasn’t as engaging as “Divine Rivals”. I like my romantasy novels with more romance than fantasy, and this one had less romance than its predecessor, in part because Iris and Roman weren’t in the same place as much. I enjoyed the second half more than the first and thought the author did a good job addressing the issue of war. Unfortunately, I found my mind wandering for a lot of the audiobook, so this just didn’t live up to the hype for me.
