“If I read a book and it makes my whole body so cold no fire can warm me, I know that it is poetry. If I feel physically as if the top of my head were taken off, I know that it is poetry. These are the only ways I know it. Is there any other way?”- Emily Dickinson.
This poetry collection affected me in a more physical way than any other poetry I have read - the deep yearning and passion that Siken infused into his poems is second to none. I had a visceral reaction to so many of his fantastically beautiful and brutal words. I am dan of the romantics at heart, but something about the obsessive, blunt and hungry tone evoked feelings within me I didn’t know poetry was capable of. Will be rereading this collection for the rest of my life.
