One Last Stop by Casey McQuiston
4.0
Rounded down from 4.5 stars ⭐️ I’m not even fully sure where I’m supposed to begin when it comes to reviewing this book.
August struggles to settle in life and ends up moving to New York. On her way to university one day she bumps in to Jane; charming, edgy and flirtatious. However, Jane has managed to move out of time, she’s stuck in the present day after coming out of the 1970s. She cannot leave the subway that she is stuck on. August does everything she can to try and get Jane unstuck.
I picked this book up so I could buddy read it with a friend. I read the book without reading the blurb or having any idea what it was about. When the 1970s time displacement twist came up I was completely blindsided. I admit, at first I wasn’t a huge fan of this, it was just so unrealistic and bizarre. But I soon began to love the story and appreciate it for its uniqueness. This is a romcom book unlike any other. I know I will remember it because it was so different!
I vowed to myself that I would start reading more LGBTQ+ books. This one is my favourite LGBTQ+ book to date. As a bisexual woman as I was able to see myself in the character of August. It made me feel heard and important. I’ve never before read a book with a bisexual character so I loved the representation. I also absolutely loved Jane’s character, I feel like I desperately need a Jane in my life!! I felt so many different things whilst I read this novel. It is extremely steamy, but I also felt like my heart was about to be wrenched from my chest. I laughed and I nearly cried. I think this may be the best romcom I’ve read to date!
I would recommend this to anyone who loves romcom, especially a representative one!
