The Enchanted April by Elizabeth von Arnim

5.0

Just thinking about this book makes me happy.

Four women with different background vacationing together in a castle in Italy for one month. Lottie Wilkins, an easily nervous lady who is unhappy with her marriage. Demure and pious Rose Arbuthnot who always feels sinful, despite her constant prayer and social work . The beautiful Lady Caroline (a.k.a Scrap, even her nickname sounds cute on her!) who is tired of her flock of admirer and just want to be alone. Strict old Mrs. Fisher who was always strive to live nobly and properly. The charm of the castle makes these tired women come out as refreshed and better person.

Von Arnim's writing turn into magic in this book. Lovely, lovely description, makes me hope this castle was based on a real place! I surely want to visit it sometimes! And the characters are impossible to hate.

Delightful read, and epitome of comfort read. I love this. I think more people should read this.
