Harrowing story of a twelve year old boy sent to a reform school based on the Dozier school (this is the same place [b:The Nickel Boys|42270835|The Nickel Boys|Colson Whitehead|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1593115396l/42270835._SY75_.jpg|65893762] was based on, which I DNFed, yet finished this 600 page chunkster on the same subject), and a family persecuted for the father's unionising. It is also a ghost story, but the horror elements mostly come from the awful things humans can do to one another. His sister's side of the story dragged in places, but I can see she was there to portray how the system was set against them.
