Dark Breaks the Dawn by Sara B. Larson
Did not finish book. Stopped at 50%.
*My DNF review*
I was so looking forward to reading this book and enjoying it, but sadly it just wasn't doing it for me. I couldn't even finish it and had to stop about 160 pages in. Which says a lot because I rarely DNF books, and it takes a lot for me to do it. I was just getting bored and annoyed with this book.
The one thing I will say that this books as going for it is the world. Sara B. Larson has done a great job creating a fascinating world and putting that forth. It just felt like a lot of telling instead of showing and the writing just felt very awkward in general to me. i'm not even sure how to explain it, but it just felt off and didn't flow as well as I would have liked which really kind of put me off.
I can't really say if this is true or not because I didn't fully read it, but our main character Evelayn felt like a very Mary-sue character and just wasn't very interesting to me. We also have an insta love between Evelayn and Tanvir which kind of just had me rolling my eyes a little bit.
I was still a little interested to see what happened so I ended up reading and scanning through the ending of the book. I feel like that would be an interesting and exciting ending, if I cared about the rest of the book which I didn't, so you know. I don't know, I'm just said because I was really excited to read this book and I was sure I was going to enjoy it but it just didn't grab me in the first half and since school is starting and my reading time won't be as much I just have so many other books I want to read.
