The Pram by Joe Hill

4.0

"The Pram" is good. Joe Hill is good. This short story delves into the head and the heart of a man whose wife experienced a miscarriage. It addresses the perspective of a heartbroken and angry man who was almost-a-dad in a way that I never knew I needed to read.

The components of this story are classic horror: couples from a big city moving into a rural area due to circumstances and now living in a big, beautiful old house on the top of a hill surrounded by woods, mysterious neighbors, an equally mysterious neighborhood, and a local cult with its generational belief system and traditions.

I wanted the characters to have their life together after what they've been through.
I wanted them to have a second chance in life, I really did.
But this is still a horror tale.

And we all know that happy endings were never truly on the table.
Even when the price was paid high.
