My Policeman by Bethan Roberts
4.0
Oh man, this one is good. I’m not sure I’d put it up there with Call Me By Your Name or The Goldfinch, but it is darned good. With that, though, I don’t like Marion. She doesn’t know how to speak up for herself or prioritize herself, which makes her act out impulsively with little thought to the impact of her actions. I liked Tom initially, but not as much later. He sort of does wrong by Marion and Patrick. Patrick is, for me, the most likable of the trio. Important to keep two things in mind: 1) the time period this story takes place was not accepting and 2) this novel is based on E.M Forster’s relationship. Roberts does a great job telling the story and depicting the different view points. I am a bit curious about Tom’s perspective, though, but don’t feel the story is lacking for not having it.
