Strange creature abandoned in a sample jar escapes… Drawing on tropes of abandoned teddies &c. this is at one level a simple, well-told tale - but there’s more to it. What is freedom? How do we make choices? What is our friendship group - and how will we choose to live? Little tricks of scale, of the (often comic) interplay between all the creatures make this much more thoughtful - and the point at which Barnabus comes face to face with boxed toys that look like him will stay with me quite a while.
