An exciting, heartbreaking, but also sometimes funny western that takes you from the Texas-Mexico border to the plains of Montana and back again. McMurtry is an incredible storyteller, and his ability to weave so many storylines together while at the same time not losing sight of the overarching narrative is impressive; it reminded me of Steinbeck’s “East of Eden” in that regard. All in all, this book is well worth the time it takes to read it, and it’s easily my favorite book I’ve read this year (so far)! On to the next!
