quick summary:
A second chance, kind of forbidden romance dealing with fears, opening up and mostly love — that is what "Wie Melodien im Wind" is about.
Another year in the boarding school "Mare" passing by, told from Toni's perspective, the daughter of one of the cleaners in the school as well as her formerly criminal and now depressed dad. She struggles a lot from the problems at home, especially when her beloved brother is getting arrested for selling drugs. At school nearly nobody knows about her messed up family, but she doesn't intend on telling them in the near future. Her experience has been quite horrible in the past, getting left behind by her former friends and rejected by Lucas, her big love, who unfortunately also happens to be the danish prince. But when Toni and Lucas start to get closer to each other again due to a band project, the two cannot ignore the tension between them. Will they be able to stay true to themselves and figure out their secrets? Or will they fall apart again?
review:
I LOVED THIISSS. A lot more than the first book in the series!!
I have absolutely adored Toni in the first book as well, so it was quite interesting to hear more about her situation :)
This book was FULL of love again. I adore the family dynamic so much, Aaron and Toni have such a special bond :(( I love Aaron in general. He's a ray-of-sunshine-but-make-it-bad-boy type of person (very simple description), which was such an interesting characterization!! Luca's has such a lovely family as well though :) Especially Nora. But the rest as well!!
I think many aspects of this book were too lengthy, Toni's feelings have been overexplained, the many messages in this book were obvious to me personally already (but it's still so important to write about them), in the end somehow everyone was in a relationship and that was their happy end? uhm so, it's actually surprising I enjoyed this book! I have listened to it as an audio book, so that probably really made the experience a lot more appealing!
The exploration of sexuality was so sweet :) And the plot made sense. I also absolutely adored Toni and Lucas. LUCAS IS SUCH A GREEN FLAG OKAY. I have been a little scared, because of the second chance romance aspect, but their motivations were reasonable, both fucked up at some point and communicated with each other at another point in order to make clear what they were trying to do haha. And Lucas has always been so heartwarmingly honest. It created so, SO much tension between them and, frankly, quite shocking and dramatic. I loved these two.
I also think the discussion of mental health has been a central part of the book and has been done decently. Like basically the whole book it felt a little ... pedagogical? ( the aspect of opening up, being yourself and being openminded, facing fears, future, sex, etc.), but probably quite accurate and real as well.
Uhm, maybe I'm just a little too old for the books? Which doesn't make sense because I'm actually the same age as the characters, but yeah.
Okay let's face the music related part of the book though... While I appreciate books about bands and believe that Toni is such a cool percussionist, uhm, this was a little weird for me personally to read.
First of all, the songs they have written.
I was not a fan, I am sorry. Maybe because the lyrics were written in german, maybe because I'm writing song lyrics myself and have friends that do so and like ours more. Maybe also, because they were seen as such well written lyrics by the characters, while I just... they were okay. But a little bit cringe to witness sometimes. There were some nice moments, sure, but I think in my school the band would not get as much of a positive feedback-
Neverminddd, I'm glad Toni has such a connection to making music, so maybe that's just jealousy, sorry 😔
I just wasn't a biggggg faaan.
This book made me feel something though (okay, often that has been frustration), but the lovable characters made it quite a cohesive experience :) And I adore it a lot more than the first book^^
