The Coup: 1953, the Cia, and the Roots of Modern U.S.-Iranian Relations by Ervand Abrahamian

10/10

Great book that details the events surrounding the 1953 Coup lead by the UK and USA.

Despite the many layers surrounding the Coup, Abrahamian does a great job at making the events leading up to the Coup really easy to follow. Abrahamian goes into great detail about Iranian politics, economics, society as a whole, and foreign relations (Iranian-Uk-USA-Soviet).

The entire book is well-researched, well-written, and well-executed. If you're interested in learning more about the history of Iran and how its history affects the country today, definitely read this book.

I found it really interesting (and honestly infuriating too) to see how far Western countries are willing to go just for the sake of generating a profit. It seems like no country is allowed to be rich in resources without paying some sort of dues to the Western nations - absolute bullshit if you ask me.
