Hawkeye, Vol. 1: My Life as a Weapon by Matt Fraction
5.0
[Selected for the Staff Recommendations display at Owings Mills Library, December 30 2014]
This comics title was my entry vector, my gateway drug, into the world of comic books on my own terms. I had just seen the Avengers movie and been intrigued by Hawkeye, with his reduced screentime and complete lack of agency until the end of the film. Who was this guy?
Between the amazing award-winning talents of Matt Fraction, the writer, and David Aja, the artist, I was hooked - not just on Hawkeye, the flawed human being with a huge heart and a skill that lets him run with superhumans, but on the comic format as a method of storytelling.
And the dog, Lucky. I am totally hooked on Lucky.
