The Shadowed Sun by N.K. Jemisin

5.0

I loved this, which surprised me because I respect The Killing Moon, but don't love it. While this book is a story about war and about upheaval and abuse (serious content notes for incest and other sexual violence), it is primarily a love story. It's funny and sweet and heavy. The dream plague plot was difficult to read in the context of COVID-19. But overall, this book is more of a romance than anything and I enjoyed it.

Reread thoughts: One of my favorite things about Jemisin is knowing she still writes fanfic. This book is a window into the kind of fic I think she writes. Strong enemies to lovers & hurt/comfort themes.

1/11/2024 - I reread this book because the ending is just so good. I love seeing Wanahomen and Hanani work out their relationship.
