I finished this last night and I can't stop thinking about it. The sentence "What have you done today to deserve your eyes" is stuck in my brain, haunting me. I'm definitely re-reading this one day because I feel there's a lot of symbolism, some I caught some I didn't in my rush to the end. Because at one point I couldn't stop reading. I didn't know what to expect. And, oh wow.
Things Have Gotten Worse Since We Last Spoke is a horror novella about two lonely women who aren't... well. Both of them are messed up and their relationship soon evolves in a very disturbing way. The story starts subtly but escalates very fast and after that everything goes so wrong in so many gruesome ways. Morbid and bizarre, with some very vivid descriptions of twisted images. This is also an epistolary novella, written in the form of mails and chat messages, which I'm usually not a big fan of but it's a part of what worked for me well in this story.
It's was a perfect read for me, but I like weird and morbid things. I love stories about loneliness even if they don't necessarily end on a positive note. Because I know how bad it can get. So I'm glad to have found this book.
