Holly by Stephen King

4.0

I feel the need to begin my review by saying that all of the people outraged about the fact that Stephen King (yes, a liberal - the horror) wrote about COVID, the politics surrounding it, the vaxxers vs. the anti-vaxxers, masks, gloves and hand sanitizers keep on keeping your head in the sand. COVID (and all of its related bullshit) did actually happen and this book takes place during that time period, so I ask you, how the hell do you write a book during the time of a global pandemic and not mention it? I suppose you would have to stick to writing fantasy.

If you haven't yet read the following (in the following order):
Mr Mercedes
Finders Keepers
End of Watch
The Outsider
If It Bleeds
which is a novella in the If It Bleeds collection.
you definitely should before reading "Holly".

It has been quite the journey, reading along and being a witness to the transformation and growth of a character such as Holly Gibney. One of Stephen King's great gifts is his ability to create characters who come to life.

Holly a perfect continuation for the Bill Hodges/Holly Gibney series. The transformation from a shy, reclusive, introvert into a strong, independent and self reliant person has been accomplished. I don't think that we have seen the last of Holly, however. I'm sure she will pop up again somewhere else.
