The Martian by Andy Weir
5.0
When I first picked up this book I genuinely was kind of scared, the idea of someone being left on Mars alone terrifies me. But it turns out that Mark, our main character, was freaking hilarious and I really enjoyed this one. If Mark was a more doom and gloom fella I definitely wouldn't have had fun, but some of his one liners had me laughing out loud. The imagery of the book was also surprisingly vivid, considering Mars is essentially a red desert. I was able to visualise what Mark was doing really well and felt like I was there with him (from the comfort of my own Earth home). It also felt extremely real. Earth wasn't any different to current Earth, except we had just had people on Mars. Felt like we already had achieved this space goal. In general, this is one I'm super happy to have picked up and will be looking out for his other books.
