The "Bad Boy" of INK stars in a Hallmark-esque Christmas movie to try and prove that he's cleaning up his act, only to end up with a porn star of a love interest, and not just any, but Bianca Von Honey, someone he's been following online for years. A fantasy come true! Except, ya know, he's promised to have nothing but squeaky clean behavior during the filming of this movie. Meanwhile, Bee is starring in her first mainstream movie alongside her favorite member of INK? But the guy who got her the job has ensured that nobody will find out she's a porn star, which means she can't give ANY HINT of what she was cast in before this movie. Will they make it?
I mean, it's a romance novel and Sierra Simone is involved in writing it, so obviously not. They don't last long at all. If you were looking for a book with two love interests who successfully avoid each other for the majority of the book, you are looking in the wrong spot. This book was SO much fun! It had all of the sweetness you expect from a Julie Murphy book and all the heat you expect when reading from Sierra Simone. These two authors were able to blend their distinct voices in a way where it didn't feel like either one was lost while they told a phenomenal story.
I listened to the audiobook, and Joy Nash and Sebastian York did a PHENOMENAL job as Bee and Nolan! I've always loved Joy Nash from her acting, but have never listened to an audiobook from either of these actors and based on this one, I'd happily listen to more from both of them.
Anytime you're dealing with a book where a main character works in the porn industry, there's concern about how it will be written/approached. This is definitely one of the better books I've read when it comes to this. Bee loves her job, and while she does want to work in more mainstream film, that primarily comes from a place of "my job doesn't last forever" versus "I want a real acting job", like one might expect from a situation like this. Bee has a history of people not wanting to date her publicly, whether that be for her occupation or for her size. I think the combination of these two things and showing that she isn't ashamed of herself, but she is prepared for others to be ashamed to be around her because of it, is a really interesting balance.
I will forever love a romance novel that actually spends some time showing the main characters' relationships with their friends, family, and coworkers and not spent entirely on the love story. They did a great job here! I fully understood the motivations behind the choices that both Bee and Nolan make.
The only reason this book didn't get five stars is one issue that I hope gets more attention in a future novel. One of the band members has a sex tape get leaked and it's a pretty big deal! But throughout, you just hear people talking about how "good" the sex tape is and the consent issues that come with viewing sexual content that was never intended to be released by one of the parties involved. It feels particularly weird, since Bee kind of got started in her career by posting her own nudes before an ex boyfriend had the opportunity to do so. Hoping when we get to Kallum's book, we'll get some more context on the whole situation.
I absolutely loved this book! I will 100% be reading it again around the holiday season.
