" OK, how is this book series NOT A SERIES YET!?!
This was gold! I only can cross my fingers that Stang will find a rich suga daddy/momma and make this into a series. I know this review is a bit strange than my usual serious dissections in the reviews but, holy shit. How was this better than "Barbarian" (Barbarian was also good in Stang's defense).
I can't tell if I have rose-tinted glasses, but this was a well-executed book. (view spoiler) Stang does a brilliant job of forcing you to be attached and invested in the characters with only a few pages that take so many authors hundreds of pages that Stang does in less than 300. That is a gifted writer.
I loved the usage of the Nobles and the unsettling creatures in the Manor itself. It makes it feel as if a Souls book farted on it and I will proudly place this book on that shelf. It may only be a fart, but it was a delicious one at that. (view spoiler)
I remember seeing one review that wasn't sure why there were so many elements in this book. Nay. I think this had enough, if not, needs more. If this turns out to be a series, this world building was necessary and out right mysterious, spooky, and left me wanting more. I want more of the Nobles, what other creatures Isabeau might encounter, and more of Evie.
The only thing that I'm mad and sad about, is that there's no sequel at present. I really need a series or sequels on this book so badly. I don't know what unlocked me to need a series out of what appears to be a stand-alone. But I now have an unhealthy need to see where our adventures continue with Isabeau.
