Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi

Did not finish book.

2.0

Reviewed as part of my 10 Years of Goodreads Choice Award Winners project.

I started this back in 2018 and made it about halfway before I put it down and never looked back.

I came back to it in 2023 for the above project and honestly, DNF-ing was the right call. This is easy to read, but it is also generic, a bit lifeless, predictable, and overly tropey. I didn't feel particularly invested in any of the characters, and I found that their reactions and motivations were often so far from what the situations called for. There were times when it all felt so overwrought and dramatic and others when it felt like no one was giving the violence or plot the importance it deserved.

As soon as I finished this, most of it slipped entirely out of my head. Truly forgettable.
