A History of Private Life: From Pagan Rome to Byzantium by Philippe Ariès, Georges Duby, Paul Veyne

informative reflective slow-paced

4.0

A fascinating collection of essays about various aspects of private life, from Pagan Rome to Byzantium. The book is not the most accessible reading material due to an overabundance of jargon and verbose writing. Still, I appreciated how honest the authors are about gaps in knowledge and available/missing historical sources, and the discussions of various interpretations and possible bias that comes with interpreting incomplete fragments of different times.
