This book completely blew my mind. I felt like I was reading (listening to) something written yesterday! Virginia Woolf was so incredibly ahead of her time it's honestly staggering. The way she writes about PTSD, feminism, sexuality, when all of these subjects were, at best, viewed as something to be afraid of and avoided, or, at worst, entirely nonexistent at the time is astounding.
I know Woolf's stream-of-consciousness style is off-putting to some, but I love it! I love that it feels like I'm actually inside the character's head with messy tangles of thoughts constantly disrupting one another and bunny trailing to tangents that nobody saw coming, even the character themselves. I don't know about others, but this is exactly how my brain works when I'm just sitting with my own thoughts, so it's homey for me.
This was my first Virginia Woolf novel and will certainly not be my last!
