A fun and fast read. Several different chapters of different lengths, each told from the view point of different member of an extended black family in 1950s America. Plot goes smoothly. The main characters are interesting. Bad guys seem a bit one dimensional, but not surprising give the genre. The book opened my eyes to the segregation that the US had. A bit weird that characters weren't too surprised by the magic and the occult they encountered, but I suppose they were used to all the bad stuff that black people had to regularly deal with in 1950s America.
